The RCCI strives for a world where every person with special needs has the opportunity to access education, embrace expanded possibilities and reach their full potential for independence. We incorporate Speech and Language Therapy into our teaching programme and place an emphasis on the development of social communication and independence skills to facilitate integration into society. Specific activities are planned according to the student’s needs based on an Individual Education Plan.

The RCCI’s multidisciplinary approach unites the core team of special education teachers, speech therapist, and support workers with specialists in behaviour analysis, psychology, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Our Day Centre provides respite care for children and adults with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. Those enrolled in our Day Centre require a high level of attention. Some need one-to-one attention at all times. We are currently at capacity and have a wait list. We need more teachers to be able to accommodate more of those who seek our help.

The School Readiness Programme builds foundation skills for the classroom. We work with students age 4 – 7 with ASD, ADHD and intellectual disabilities to develop social communication skills, fine motor skills and to build the ability to follow routines. Following this programme, students may be able to enter mainstream schools based on their abilities. For others, the RCCI School may be better suited, allowing them to continue developing functional literacy and independence skills so that they may progress to the RCCI’s Vocational Training and Work Readiness programme.

Our Vocational Training/ Work Readiness Program provides young adults with the skills needed to enter the work force. We typically enroll students 15+ with a high level of functional literacy and self help skills such as the ability to dress, feed and toilet themselves. We also work with potential employers to develop training programmes tailored to the roles they need and help students transition into the workplace. We have our own workshop where students practice their skills. We also employ persons with cognitive disabilities in roles among our teaching and administrative staff.

Our Independence Training Programme encourages the development of skills needed to participate in society as independently as possible. We are currently focussing on travel training to develop our students’ ability to travel independently.
